Browns Broken Hand

Rookie outfielder Domonic Brown of the Philadelphia Phillies broke his hand in the Phillies loss to the Pirates 4-3. The injury may require surgery. If he had surgery it would take three to six weeks to recover.

The injury was a fractured Hamate bone in his right hand. He suffered the injury on Saturday while taking a swing against the Pittsburg pirates in that same at-bat he singled for his first hit of the pre-season.

This injury would most likely give Ben Franssco the job of stating right fielder. It could also be John Mayberry or Ross Gload. Francisco, who came to Philadelphia in the July 2009 trade that brought Cliff Lee to the Phillies the first time.

This injury is not uncommon for hitters. Brown was hitless in his first 15 spring at-bats nine of them were strikeouts until he got that single in the at-bat he broke his hand. There is still Ben fransisco who could take the right field job from brown without him being injured because he is hitting .421 (8-19).

  1. Great reporting All Around Sports Kid...you have more info than we are getting down here in Philly. We'll hope that surgery is not required.

  2. Let's hope he's all healed up before the regular season starts.
